Tired, Sore, and Feeling Good

In Our Garden
I usually post recipes and pretty pictures of food on Sundays.  I am pretty sure the flexitarian goodies will start to appear midweek soon instead of Sundays.  As the weather gets warmer, the cooking will be transitioning to midweek.  Because, when the sun's out on the weekend, and we are in town, we're gardening!   When the garden gets into full swing and we are harvesting each day, dinner is usually in the garden and raw.  We worked from about 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. today.  Six wonderful hours in the warm sunshine today and we are sore, tired, have blistered hands, and some pink skin, but we feel really good.  It's a happy tired. We planted many of the babies we've been keeping alive in the greenhouse, just waiting for a day like today.  It's beginning to look like a garden.

We were glad to see the clouds come in the late afternoon. We were tired, hungry, and the garden could use a bit of water anyway.  Everything will look a little sad for a couple of days, but it always perks up and grows strong.  Today we planted tomatoes, broccoli, some eggplant, red and green cabbage, marigolds, some yellow flowers that look like daisies, a couple Celosia's, and various herbs that were ready: oregano, thyme, rosemary, cilantro, parsley, and some mint. we are tired, but pretty happy with our peaceful day playing and losing ourselves in the dirt.

Mystic Spirit

I noticed these flowers from across the road and a couple stalls away at the farmer's market. As I got closer, I liked them even more. The plant is called "Mystic Spirit." I thought something that called me from across the road called Mystic Spirit should come home with me.

Garden Update

We finally have sunshine. This morning I started some eight ball zucchini, gold zucchini, cantaloupe, Cherry Vanilla Quinoa, and some more cauliflower seeds. I am off to the farmer's market and the garden supply store. I am picking up some supplies to get our tomatoes in the ground tomorrow. We have family business today, but tomorrow the sun may shine and I want to be ready. We do have some plants in the ground that are doing just fine. The peas are almost two feet tall now.

The weather is nice now, but I had better get going before the rain and/or hail comes. This is Washington spring, any and all types of weather possible can happen on the same day. Yesterday I caught a beautiful sunset at the same time it was raining. Love it!

Cookie Face

I really did have a good day for the most part. Work went very well, I felt the warm sun on my skin today, and had some fun in my home doing what I want. I relaxed this evening with a little music, some crocheting, playing in our green house, and doing some "mom" stuff. Just because the kids aren't around doesn't mean I can't celebrate Mother's Day. I made some Gluten Free Orange Pecan Shortbread Cookies, some healthy comfort food. My husband doesn't usually care for shortbread, but he liked these very much. Instead of wheat flour I used some potato starch and tapioca flour. Only one egg yolk for the whole batter and a couple tablespoons almond milk, there is very little dairy in these cookies. I chopped some roasted pecans I got in Alabama, and added the zest from one orange in the batter.
